NiSi Aureus Primes: A Full-Frame Balanced, Modern Set
The last few years have seen an influx of non-legacy manufacturers entering the cinema lens market—delivering performance that, not long ago, was mostly limited to established names.
The full-frame Aureus Primes are NiSi’s latest entry into that space. While they’re still a newer player on the cinema side, the set covers a lot of ground in terms of speed, consistency, and overall usability—especially at this price point.
They’re clean and predictable, but stop short of the overly clinical look that’s often associated with newer lens designs. There’s a bit more give in the image, without losing the sharpness or control you’d expect from a modern set.

Image Characteristics
The Aureus primes are fast lenses at T1.4 and hold up well wide open. They maintain sharpness without introducing the kind of harshness that many attribute to modern lenses.
In practice:
- Sharp at T1.4 with even performance across the frame
- Contrast is present but not aggressive
- Highlights stay controlled
- Skin tones render naturally
Color is fairly neutral, which gives you flexibility in the grade without feeling like you’re correcting a strong bias.
Out-of-focus areas are smooth and unobtrusive. The falloff is gradual, and background separation feels natural without drawing attention to itself.
Technical Performance
From a usability standpoint, the lenses behave the way you’d expect on set:
- Excellent sensor coverage: 46mm image circle makes these suitable for Full-Frame and Vista Vision sensors
- Minimal chromatic aberration
- Low distortion
- Very little focus breathing
- Consistent performance across focal lengths
Build & Practical Use
Mechanically, the set is straightforward and production-friendly:
- 300° focus rotation
- Unified gear positions
- 90mm front diameter
- PL mount
- Compact and relatively lightweight, averaging about ~3–4 lbs per lens
They’re easy to work into most builds, whether that’s handheld, gimbal, or studio setups.

Our set includes:
- 18mm T1.4
- 24mm T1.4
- 35mm T1.4
